Obituary of Robert J. Cavanaugh

Robert J. Cavanaugh, age 86, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, formerly of Emerson Valley, Staten Island, passed away on February 10, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol for 40 years; loving father of Carol Maragni and her husband, Carmine, Mary Piacentino and her husband, Patrick, Virginia Graham and her husband, Joseph, James Cavanaugh and his wife, Jennifer, and the late Michael Tamborra; cherished grandfather of Mark, Erica, Jonathan, Daniel and Brigid; dear brother of Peter, John and Hazel Cavanaugh. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Robert was a patriotic man who served his country honorably and was extremely proud of his military career. After his service time was complete he became a Longshoreman and later he became a local 740 Millwright for which he became the Business Agent for over 30 years. He was very proud to represent the New York City District Council of Carpenter's as the Secretary Treasurer. However, his most important job was as a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed traveling, entertaining and spending quality time with his family. He will be remembered as a perfect gentleman and a wonderful role model for anyone who had the pleasure to know him. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday departing at 10:15 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church at 11 AM. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
