Obituary of James K. Dong

James (Jimmy) Dong Former restaurant owner, family man

James Dong of New Springville passed away on 4/10/2018 surrounded by his family. Born in Kwang Tung, China and moved to Manhattan, James was a graduate of Samuel Gompers High School in Manhattan. He was into martial arts and participated in the Chinese New Year events in Chinatown performing the lion dance. He went into the restaurant business and eventually moved on to co-owning the Jade Island restaurant. After selling the restaurant, he went on to work for El Al Airlines at JFK Airport in the cargo department until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing trips with his son. He was also a Mets, Giants, and wrestling fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and cooking special meals for them. He was the best father and grandfather anyone could have. He had a big heart and was always there when you needed him. He adored his granddaughter and loved spending time with her.

He was the beloved husband of Ann (née Seto); loving father of Debbie Cresante, Brenda Dong, and Darryl Dong; beloved father-in-law of Richard Cresante; cherished grandfather of Lauren Cresante; fond brother of Sherry Johnson and Betty Gee. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc. 2508 Victory Blvd. On Monday, 4/16/18 at 11:00 AM.   An interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
