Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother: Leonard (Lenny) Labita, 88 of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was born to Marian & Leo Labita on July 30th, 1933. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Domenica (Mimma); loving father to Leonard (Lenny) and his wife Lori; Robert, John and his wife Patrica; Cherished grandfather of Leonard (Lenny Jr), Joseph, Thomas; Nicole and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his precious sister Lenora and her husband Joseph along with many nieces & nephews. Leonard was born and raised in Staten Island. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S Wright. While serving in the Korean War, he traveled throughout England working as an aircraft mechanic. In 1963 he met and married the love of his life, Mimma. They were enthusiastic to start a family and were blessed with three sons and their loyal dog, Floppie After 35+ years of working as a supervisor for the Brooklyn Union Gas Company, he retired. Next came a role that was near and dear to his heart. He became the best, full time, hands on grandfather. His smile when he was with his grandchildren lit up the area. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mimma. He also enjoyed collecting Civil War antiques and attending antique shows. Besides his great head of hair, it will be his loving heart, selflessness, kindness, and his warm presence that will be extremely missed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to his favorite charity, St. Jude for Children. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Tuesday, 4/19/2022, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday, 4/18/2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
