Obituary of Janet Vigorito
Janet "Jan" Vigorito, a cherished matriarch, dedicated educator, and beloved community member, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 83 in Staten Island, New York. Born on March 24, 1941, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jan's warmth and vivacity were evident from a young age, traits that would define her throughout her life.
Janet's journey was marked by a deep commitment to her family, a passion for education, and an entrepreneurial spirit. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Louis Vigorito, her son John Vigorito, and her daughter Marguerite Vigorito, as well as her grandson Garry Sheppard. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Cindy Vigorito and Kim Vigorito; her granddaughter, Melissa Sozio, and her husband, Gino Sozio; her great-granddaughter, Adelina Marguerite; and her grandson, Vincent Sheppard.
After completing her studies in teaching, Jan embarked on a career that reflected her love for learning and her desire to inspire others. She served as an Assistant Administrator at Bayley Seton Hospital, where her compassionate nature and leadership skills were greatly valued. Jan also shared her knowledge and enthusiasm for the English language as a substitute teacher, touching the lives of many students.
Jan's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she became the business owner of Arrochar Deli & Liquor Store. Her work ethic and dedication to her customers built a thriving business and a loyal community around it.
Jan's zest for life was contagious, and her interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. She had an enduring love for Aruba, a tropical haven she visited for over 30 years, cherishing the sun and the sea. Summers were joyfully spent in upstate New York, where she relished the company of her family and the beauty of nature. Jan's love for her family was her guiding force, and she expressed it with her signature phrase, "I love you more," a sentiment that will echo in their hearts forever.
An aficionado of a good gin martini, Jan knew the importance of savoring the simple pleasures in life. She admired the talent of Tiger Woods, finding inspiration in his dedication and skill. Her love for doo-wop shows was more than just a musical preference; it was a bridge to cherished memories and a rhythm that moved her soul.
Above all, Jan treasured the time spent with her family and good friends, understanding that these moments were the essence of a life well-lived. Her great-granddaughter, Adelina Marguerite, her "little sassy," brought immense joy and laughter to her later years, and their bond was truly special.
Janet Vigorito's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will be honored as a beacon of love and strength. Jan's remarkable journey through life leaves behind a legacy of love and the powerful impact of a life lived with genuine care and connection.
As we bid farewell to Jan, we celebrate a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and her memory will be cherished forever. Jan's life was a testament to the beauty of a heart that loves deeply, and she will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
