Obituary of Judith A. LaMonica

Judith LaMonica, 82, a beloved educator and mentor, passed away on February 13, 2025. Born August 29, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, Judy always knew she wanted to be a teacher.  She dedicated her life to shaping young minds as a primary school teacher in Ocean Hill- Brownsville, Brooklyn.  Armed with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Brooklyn College, Judy was on a mission to instill a love for reading and learning in children of all ages.

As a college professor at The College of Insurance/St. John’s University, Judy left no student behind.  If anyone was feeling homesick or unable to make it back home for a holiday or break, they had a seat at Judy’s dining room table.  She often referred to these students as her “other kids,” and maintained connections with them long after graduation.

Judy is predeceased by her son-in-law, Jonathan Doyle.  She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Nicholas, their two children, Andreana Doyle and Jason (Lori) LaMonica, their five grandchildren, Allie Doyle, Sam Doyle, Lily Cummiskey, Sarah LaMonica, and Matthew LaMonica, and her sister Daria (Sam) Schwartz.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
