Obituary of Peter DeLeonibus
Peter (Pete) DeLeonibus passed away on February 27, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was predeceased by his wife Ann DeLeonibus, parents Vincenzo and Angelina DeLeonibus, brothers Pasquale (Patsi) and Gaetano (Guy), sister Joann, and several loving in-laws.
He leaves behind his daughter Angela and her husband Jason, sons Craig and Joseph, daughters in-law Vicki and Judy; Grandchildren Brianna and her husband Joe, Amanda and her partner Michael, Joey Nicole, Craig Jr., Andrew, Carter and Cameron; Great Grandchildren Mason and Frankie Annmarie. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and very special loving family members who always remained close and stayed by his side in his last days – his nephew Vincent DeLeonibus with whom he shared a very special bond and Vincent's wife Marie.
Pete was born in Mola di Bari, Italy in 1933 and moved to New York as a young teenager. He worked as a Long-Shoreman for more than 50 years. He was a United States Army Veteran and proudly served in the Korean war.
Pete truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He was most happy being around his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His face lit up when one of his grandchildren entered the room. He was a man of few words but his actions spoke volumes. He had a generous heart and a warm smile for all who came in contact with him. He believed in working hard, living an honest life, respecting all those around him and taking care of family. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his family. He loved a good meal and he particularly enjoyed his frequent outings with his grandchildren to eat clams at Joe's Lobster House. His "family" circle expanded greatly in his last few years living at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home. At 91, he still had an uncanny ability to remember people's names and special details about them. He always remembered to inquire about a sick family member, to offer condolences or to wish someone happy birthday and congratulate them on an achievement. He made dozens of friends and acquaintances right up to his last days. He loved to be celebrated and never passed up the chance to have a party. He was adored by so many and the outpouring of affection for him even from those who only knew him for a short time is a testament to his kind nature and a life well-lived. He will be remembered with a big smile on his face and that slightly mischievous look he got in his eyes when something gave him a good laugh.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, 3/10, departing at 9:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa's R.C. Church at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, 3/9, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
