Obituary of Louisa DeCataldo

Louisa DeCataldo, 91, passed peacefully on February 28, 2025 surrounded by family at home.  She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Mariano and Anna (Freund) Picone.

She is survived by her sons Michael (Helene) DeCataldo, Jr.  and Robert (Kathleen) DeCataldo and four granddaughters Jennifer (Mark), Hillary, Devon and Audra, as well as two great granddaughters Saylor and Ophelia, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, Sr., whom she married on October 4, 1951. She was also predeceased by her sister Florence Ballentyne, and brothers Michael and Thomas Picone. 

Louisa enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting – particularly  blankets for everyone. She was primarily a homemaker and after her children were grown, enjoyed working in various retail positions well into her 80s. She always had her cat for company and lived independently until her passing.

Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, SI, NY, on Monday, 3/10, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Louisa’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a charity which she supported.
