Obituary of Robert V. Damato
Robert V. Damato, born on April 30, 1939, in Canarsie, Brooklyn, passed away
peacefully at home on March 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years
old.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Ellen, his sons Robert Jr. and
Steven, along with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. He was a proud
grandfather, uncle, cousin, and one of the best friends anyone could have.
Bobby was predeceased by his brothers, John and Anthony, who were always close to
his heart.
A proud Army Veteran, Bobby served in the 82nd Airborne Division, demonstrating his
courage and commitment to his country. Beyond his service, Bobby had a deep love for
sports—he was a semi-professional football player, a boxer, and a skilled sheet rocker
by trade for over 50 years. His craftsmanship and dedication to his work earned him the
respect of his peers and colleagues.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with family and
friends. Bobby loved watching his grandsons play football, sharing countless moments
of pride and joy with them. He was always the life of the party, whether it was playing
craps with friends or simply enjoying a good laugh. Bobby’s infectious sense of humor
and ability to have fun no matter the setting made him a beloved figure in the lives of
many.
Visitation will be held at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY,
on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will be greatly
appreciated.
Bobby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of laughter,
love, and friendship will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
