Glenn Korsnes Obituary
Glenn Korsnes, the owner of Charles Pfeiffer Medical, sadly passed away quite unexpectedly and suddenly at home on February 16th from a heart attack. He was only 50 years old.
Glenn was born in Brooklyn on June 30, 1974 to Magne and Karen Korsnes. The family relocated to Staten Island when he was a small child, where he then spent the rest of his life. An adorable toddler, Glenn's mother signed him up as a child model along with his brother Michael and the two appeared in numerous JC Penney and Sears ads, modeling clothing. Glenn became "Master Staten Island" around three years old and proudly led the parade route in his sailor outfit while in his stroller along the boardwalk.
Glenn graduated from Susan Wagner High School in 1992 and attended the College of Staten Island for two years. He then worked a few jobs, always enjoying tinkering with old cars, motors and machines all while figuring out how to fix things.
When he walked into Charles Pfeiffer Medical in 1996, Mr. Charles Pfeiffer saw something in Glenn and hired him on the spot. Glenn's life was forever changed and dedicated to the store from that moment on. Starting off as a delivery driver for the company, Glenn then worked his way up in ranks, becoming the delivery manager and eventually, a store manager when John Pfeiffer passed away in 2009. Glenn then worked side by side with former store owner Edward Salley for the next few years.
Glenn was honored in 2014 by Senator Andrew Lanza during a Circle of Life Gala held at the Old Bermuda Inn for his life's work, dedication and the compassion that he showed to the Staten Island community thru his partnership with University Hospice.
When the store had to move to a new location in 2018, Glenn bought the business from Edward and became the new owner. It was his biggest accomplishment in life and one he was most proud of.
Glenn thoroughly enjoyed fixing the equipment the store sold when it got older and wore out. Problem solving and finding solutions to complex situations was something he mastered with ease. "Work smarter, not harder" is what he would always say to the staff.
Glenn was incredibly kind and generous and would go above and beyond for each and every customer who walked thru the doors of Charles Pfeiffer, even well before he became the store's owner. This is why almost every person who called and every person who walked thru those doors would ask for him. Everyone knew Glenn, and everyone loved him. The Staten Island community as a whole truly lost a great person and his presence will be missed very much so.
Glenn met and fell in love with the love of his life, Tara Kovaleski, when they were just teenagers. She was literally "the girl upstairs". From the moment they became a couple, they were then inseparable for the next 30 years that they were together. He would have given her the world if he could, and gave her as much of it as he was able to.
While he didn't have too much spare time by working at Charles Pfeiffer six days a week, Glenn still found time to enjoy other things in life. First & foremost – fishing was his passion for his entire life. As was having numerous fish tanks filled with African Cichlids, two of which are in the store and are greatly admired by all those who come into the store.
Glenn and Tara would enjoy trips to the mountains, hiking, bowling, going to PA to shoot off fireworks and visiting local steakhouses, where Glenn would order the biggest steak on the menu. In fact, he was quite the "grill master" himself and was an expert in grilling & smoking meats. Customers who happened to come to Charles Pfeiffer on a day Glenn wanted to smoke some meat, would find Glenn standing at his smoker in the parking lot, and exclaim how wonderful the pork roast or ribs he was smoking smelled. Ever-generous, he would often share the food with neighbors around the store and others.
Born with a green thumb, Glenn also enjoyed gardening and planting various vegetable seeds and sometimes went a little overboard with how much he planted. Like when he had Tara plant over 400 tulip bulbs last fall in the planter boxes he'd built in front of the store's warehouses in the spring of last year. Glenn loved tulips to no end and was very much looking forward to watching them bloom this spring and each spring thereafter.
Glenn and Tara have cats, which he loved dearly. If you told him you loved or had cats, he'd then be talking about their cats for quite a while. His biggest dream was to one day own a "monster Maine Coon cat" and that wish came true a year and a half ago when their beloved "Boots" came along & Glenn positively doted on him. Glenn is now reunited with his other beloved cats, who had since crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.
Glenn leaves behind his brother Michael (Patricia) of Silverdale, WA; and his wife Tara, along with their cats.
Per Glenn's wishes, there was a private cremation and a celebration of his life will follow, likely during the summer months. An announcement will be made when a date is set.
