Obituary of Harry Thambounaris
Harry Thambounaris, 92, of Staten Island, N.Y., a loving husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, Papou, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, and father-in-law passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in June 1932, and settled in Staten Island in 1973.
Harry served his country proudly in the Korean War and continued to help those in need by joining the NYPD. He was a selfless man- always finding joy in the little things and donating to more charities than one can count. Harry was a force to be reckoned with. He loved to bury himself in his music and books and always had a story to tell. He had an uncanny memory.
He always made sure to tell the ones he loved he loved them and that was evident in how much he adored his Diana, his wife of 69 years. Together, they built a beautiful life that many dream of with sons Arthur and Peter, daughter-in-law Christine, son-in-law Demetrios, sister-in-law Christine Moscoso, grandchildren Amanda and her husband Neil, Brittany and her husband Sean, great granddaughters Everly and Layla, nephew Alexander and his wife Pam, and their two sons Dominic and Dylan.
He always said he lived a full life and had no regrets. He loved his family more than anything. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was so proud he was able to be there watching them grow up, marry, have babies, and be happy. His love, bright smile, and warm hugs will be truly missed. We can only hope now he's laughing and smiling in heaven holding his Diana's hand. May his memory be eternal, and may he rest in peace.
