Obituary of Joseph A. Carannante

In Loving Memory of Joseph Carannante

Staten Island, NY

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joseph Carannante, of Staten Island.

Joseph will be forever remembered by his beloved wife of 57 years, JoAnn, and their children: Joseph (Natalie), Sal (Barbara), and Jamie (Sal), his brother Anthony and sister Joanne. He was a proud grandfather to eight beautiful grandchildren who brought him endless joy.

Born in Staten Island, New York, to Anthony and Margaret Carannante, Joseph graduated from Port Richmond High School and went on to serve his country with pride in the United States Air Force. In 1968, he married the love of his life, JoAnn, and together they made a home in Arden Heights, Staten Island.

Joseph began a distinguished career in the financial industry, serving as Director of Operations for Lehman Brothers, and later holding similar leadership roles at other esteemed financial institutions.

Joseph was known for his infectious smile, kind heart, and tremendous work ethic.

He found joy in the simple pleasures—bowling, dancing with JoAnn (especially to The Temptations), and weekend trips to Atlantic City. A lifelong dream came true when he visited Italy with his family, an experience he cherished. A passionate supporter of New York sports, Joseph remained a loyal fan throughout his life.

A 19-year cancer survivor, Joseph passed away peacefully from pneumonia, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, pop, and friend to many.

Visitation will be held at Mathew Funeral Home:

Thursday: 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM

Funeral Service: Friday at 11:00 AM

Joseph's legacy of love, laughter, and strength will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
