Obituary of Veneranda J. Panetta
Veneranda Panetta, 82, (nee Veneranda Scappatura) loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Veneranda was predeceased by her parents Dominick and Teresa Scappatura and brother Anthony. May they all rest in peace.
Veneranda is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Emilio and her children: Maria and son-in-law Corrado, Joseph and daughter-in-law Carmela, Theresa and son-in-law Anthony. She also leaves behind her 6 grandchildren Briana (her fiancé Paul), Alyssa, Matthew, Gianna, Nicholas and Olivia. In addition, she is also survived by her devoted sister who is also her best friend, Eugenia.
Veneranda was born and raised in Downtown Brooklyn, NY with her siblings who filled her childhood with endless laughter and playful banter. She enjoyed her younger years surrounded by her family, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Veneranda grew up in a time when TVs were just beginning to be a household staple. She would run home from school to watch her favorite show American Bandstand and enjoyed other funny variety shows like Sid Caesar Your Show of Shows.
She graduated from Bay Ridge High School and quickly afterwards worked in NYC as a clerical secretary. Once she met and married her husband Emilio, she decided to dedicate the rest of her life to raising her children. Throughout their 55 years of marriage, they enjoyed going on cruises, traveling to Aruba and occasionally Atlantic City. Beyond that, they found joy in visiting family, as well as simply doing everything together. Veneranda always felt blessed to have Emilio by her side as they created a beautiful life together.
Veneranda was a fantastic cook and homemaker. She enjoyed entertaining and loved her home filled with good food, love and laughter from family and friends. She was a devout Catholic, prioritizing her Sunday morning to attending mass.
Lastly, her most precious role in life was being a grandma. Her heart grew larger as she welcomed each grandchild. She took immense pride in all they accomplished, and she lit up with happiness during their most important moments.
She will be eternally missed by all.
Family and friends may visit Matthew Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24 from 7-9pm and Friday, April 25 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph RC Church on Saturday, April 26 at 11am. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
