Rest easy, Uncle Jimmy. At times, you were more like a big brother to us than an uncle, having essentially been raised by the same man. You were the young, cool uncle - witty, funny, and, dare I say, stylish. Growing up, no other adults around wore designer jeans or had “longish” hair. Our shared love of music endeared you to us even more. You listened to the same kinds of music we liked, and the fact that you played the drums, guitar and piano made us adore you all the more. Thank you for always being there for us. We love you.
Love, Michael, Joe, Lori and Chris.

One day, what seems like several lifetimes ago, when my dear, beautiful cousin Isabelle introduced Jimmy LiVolsi to our family and soon after announced they were going to be married, I knew in my heart that she had struck gold. He was clearly not only her true love, but also a gift to us all.
Among his gifts and talents, he was one of the easiest guys I'd ever had the pleasure of talking with and getting to know. Plus, unlike me, he had a good sense of style. Early in my career here in NYC, he gave me tips and advice about which clothes would suit me best and how to dress for both comfort and success.
Jim was the rare modern “Man's man.” Strong and dependable, but at the same time sensitive, caring, benevolent. Able to carefully listen to others without injecting his own ego into the conversation, and also able to take center stage by telling an engaging story or entertaining joke. In social situations, he was very capable of articulating his thoughts and feelings, and could hold his own in a debate, but, unlike many of us guys, he had the gift of being able to disagree without being disagreeable or allowing his emotions to get fired up.
We shared a joy and love of music. I remember how much I always enjoyed talking with him—about work, our kids, a new rock group, whatever—and it was always a treat to be with him. I especially remember the times when I would visit Isabelle's and his home, and Jimmy would show me some new song or technique he'd learned to play on his piano or drum set, and how his bright energy, spirit, and heart all got communicated as one dynamic force, beyond words.
Jim's love and affection for his daughters, Suzanne and Marianne, was always apparent—when he watched them play as children or listened to their concerns as they blossomed into wonderful teenagers and adults—with that special, caring, certain smile of his that conveyed his understanding, affection, and love that were just…well, beyond words.
Joan and I want to express our condolences and sorrow to Isabelle, Suzanne, Marianne, Isabella, and Alexa, and also honor Jimmy’s life and his memory.
Our family and the world has lost a rare gem.
