He was the beloved husband of Valerie Mazza; loving father of Stephanie Mazza; cherished grandfather of Liana and Mikayla Bowman; dear brother of Carmine Mazza(lisa) and Gerard Mazza (Jackie); loving brother-in-law to Virginia Itsines, Joanne Cirranello (Anthony), John Itsines, Patricia Germano, Gregory Itsines (Allie) and the late Alexis Condos. Loving uncle of 5 nieces, 7 nephews, and 3 great-nieces, one great nephew, godfather of Michelle (Marcello) Conti and Christina Mazza.

Salvatore was born and raised in South Beach, Staten Island, NY and graduated from Mckee H.S. (Class of 1968) and attended the College of Staten Island. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam from 1968-1972. He attained the rank of Corporal and served with the 82nd Airborne and 1st Infantry Division. After returning from the Army, he worked at South Beach Psychiatric Center as a Safety Officer, where he met the love of his life, Valerie in 1973. They married in May 1975 and made their home in Port Richmond. Upon returning from their honeymoon, he began his career as a U.S. Postal Letter Carrier and retired from G.P.O. Manor Road after 35 years of service.

His hobbies included coin-collecting, riding his motorcycle, auto-mechanics, softball and bowling. They enjoyed family vacations in Virginia, Florida, and the Jersey Shore. He absolutely loved babysitting and hunting for yard sales with his granddaughters Liana and Mikayla. Sal loved the NY Yankees. He was known for his kindness and selfless acts, who touched many lives, always willing to lend a hand with a smile on his face. He was loved by all those he befriended on his mail route.
