Obituary of Bernard J. Inganamorte

We regret to announce that our loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Bernard Joseph Inganamorte has passed away at 90 years of age, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. A Korean War vet, "Doc" as he was known to those closest to him, served in the United States Army and was particularly proud of his service in the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Bernard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a trusted friend, and an inspiration to all who met him. In life, Bernie was an avid golfer, a lover of travel with his wife, Arlene, and the life of the party everywhere he went. When the music started, you knew where the Inganamortes were going to be, on the dance floor. Bernie had a love for life matched only by his love of family and friends. A beloved father to Linda (Inganamorte) Blackburn and Vincent Inganamorte, Bernard cherished the moments with his children, especially at the family's summer home in the Pocono Mountains. He shared his love of golf and life with his grandson Shane Blackburn, who he bragged about any chance he could. Bernie spent his professional life drafting detailed plans for buildings and structures along the United States' eastern seaboard, including nuclear power plants, nuclear submarines and Staten Island's very own 121 Precinct on Richmond Ave. He loved his job and would share his passion with anyone who would listen up to the final weeks of his life. We would be remiss not to mention our favorite Bernard story, if you knew him well, we're sure you've heard it. Many years ago when he was working in Louisiana he witnessed a crop duster plane crash into a field. Without hesitation, or any thoughts of self-preservation Bernie sprung into action running towards the crash site, successfully pulling the pilot from the plane. Always quick with a joke or a smile, Doc was full of joy and always eager to make you laugh and smile. Bernie was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Mary, brother Dominick, and sisters Sarah and Rosie and is survived by his loving wife Arlene, children Linda and Vincent, son-in-law Edward, grandson Shane, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Blackburn Family Cancer Foundation at blackburncancerfoundation.com or by mail: 40 Maine Ave., Staten Island, NY 10314. Please note the donation is in memory of Bernard Inganamorte. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Wednesday, 5/28, departing at 10:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, 5/27, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00
