Obituary of James E. Powers

James E. Powers, 66, of Manor Heights, passed away on May 27, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Teresa M. Powers for 22 years; the loving father of Kaitlyn Powers; dear brother to Thomas Powers and the late Dorothy Smith and John Powers. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. James was born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY and graduated from John Jay High School and earned his associates degree from College of Staten Island. He worked as a supervisor for the New York City Parks and Recreation Department. James loved telling stories of his days working on Coney Island beach and the numerous hiccups that ensued his career. He was known to tell these stories two times, two times in a row. One of his favorite pastimes was watching gun smoke and M.A.S.H., where he reigned as king over the remote control at the Powers' household. With his other favorite pastime being his care and attention to detail with the pool where you would find him enjoying the nice summer weather. Family and Friends may visit the Matthew Funeral Home on Thursday May 29th from 3-7 PM. Funeral departing the funeral home on Friday May 31st at 10:15 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
