Obituary of Marilyn B. Barletto
Marilyn Beatrice Barletto (née Hasselman), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family. Marilyn was the devoted wife of Daniel “Danny” Barletto, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love, laughter, and unwavering companionship.
She was the proud and loving mother of Michele Barletto Sweeney and Brigette Barletto Sansevero, and a treasured mother-in-law to Tommy Sweeney and Nick Sansevero. Her heart belonged to her beloved granddaughter, Nicole Sweeney, who brought her endless joy, pride, and purpose.
Marilyn was the beloved sister of Rick Hasselman and was predeceased by her dear sister, the late Linda Gates, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories and deep connection. She will also be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart.
Marilyn began her working life at the New York Board of Water, where her dependability and dedication stood out. She later became the store manager of Everything Yogurt, where her friendly nature and leadership shone brightly. She retired after decades of outstanding service as a manager at JC Penney, where she left behind a legacy of excellence, kindness, and professionalism.
Known for her glistening blonde hair, radiant smile, and joyful spirit, Marilyn embraced life to the fullest. She loved dancing, going out to eat, and enjoying weekends “down the shore.” Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family and close friends. She adored the family's beloved furbabies—Lukie, Chloe, and Luna—who brought laughter and companionship into her days.
Marilyn had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant presence touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unconditional love.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314. The funeral will depart from the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM. Family and friends are welcome beginning at 9:00 AM.A Catholic Mass will follow at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Holy Family Church, Staten Island. Private cremation to follow.
