Obituary of Joseph J. Grigas, III
Joseph John Grigas III, born April 27, 1966, in Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at his home in Kill Devil Hills, NC, at the age of 59.
A dedicated public servant, Joseph was a proud graduate of Moore Catholic High School and furthered his education at Wagner College, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). His commitment to serving others led him to a distinguished career with the New York Police Department. As an NYPD Police Officer and MSA Bomb Technician, Joseph formed an unbreakable bond with his bomb dog, Ryan, while ensuring the safety of countless individuals.
Joseph's perseverance and strength were evident in all aspects of his life. As a 9/11 First Responder, he demonstrated unwavering bravery in the face of immense tragedy. Joseph also showcased his resilience and tenacity by successfully completing the NYC Marathon twice, a testament to his enduring spirit. His grit and determination extended beyond his professional life, whether spending quality time with his kids, skiing down challenging slopes, shooting at the gun range, traveling the world, taking his camper to NASCAR races, or fishing on his boat with his son.
Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Antonia LoSacco Grigas and Joseph John Grigas, Jr.
He is survived by his cherished children, Rebecca Grigas, Rachel Grigas, and Joseph John Grigas IV, all residing in Staten Island, NY, who will continue to honor his legacy with pride. He is also survived by his loving sister, Tammy D'alto, who shared in his life's journey.
