Obituary of Ellen B. Low

Ellen B. Low (nee Egan)

Ellen Low, 92, beloved matriarch, cherished friend and proud Irishwoman. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend. A longtime Westerleigh, Staten Island resident, she passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on July 5th. 2025.

Ellen entered the world on February 10th, 1933, and brought with her a lifetime of grace, resilience, and deep-rooted faith that carried her across continents and through generations.

Born in Curramore, Headford County Galway, Ireland, the youngest of seven children, (all American citizens through her father, Thomas Egan, who had volunteered for the United States Army in World War 1), she immigrated to the USA in 1951 and completed her education at Dickinson High School in Jersey City, NJ. Ellen met the love of her life, David Low, in New York City in 1955. They married in Brooklyn in 1957 and moved to Staten Island in 1963, where they raised their beautiful family

Ellen is survived by her husband, David and her four children and their spouses: Jean (John Giobbie) George (Loretta Wolfe), David (Randi Perricone) and Bill (Lisa Pizzola).

Ellen was a beloved grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her 6 siblings and her nephew, Noel Egan.

Ellen was a founding member and devout parishioner of Holy Family church for over 60 years. She was a pillar of warmth on Staten Island. The Low home was a haven of family gatherings and laughter. She was a devout wife, nurturing mother and a loyal friend. Ellen's sharp wit, gentle wisdom and unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, strength and a life well lived. Ellen had a passion for cooking; her secret chicken cutlet recipe is enjoyed at family gatherings throughout the world.

Ellen started running in her 50's and it became a passion. She made numerous lifelong friends in Clove Lake Park. She ran two New York City marathons (one with Dave) with her best time at 3:48. Amazing.

David and his children will honor her memory by living with the same compassion and courage she showed every day. Though she has left this world, Ellen's spirit will live on in all who know her - in every Irish blessing whispered, every warm embrace shared and every life that she touched

"Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam dilis". From Gaelic this translates to "May her faithful soul rest at the right hand of God"

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers donations in Ellen’s Name to the Tunnel 2 Towers Organization. T2T.ORG
