Obituary of Helmut E. Nietschke

Helmut Nietschke, 88, of Heartland Village, passed away on July 15, 2025.  He was the beloved husband of Margret Nietschke for 63 years; loving father of Eric Nietschke and his wife, Lisa, and Annette Roszak and her husband, Gerard.  Helmut was the cherished Opa to Nick Roszak, Samantha Nietschke, Chelsea Kane and her husband, Joseph, Victoria Moore and her husband, Josh, and Christian Nietschke. He was blessed to share his life with 8 great grandchildren, Emma, Colton, Lillianna, Everleigh, Cayman, Stella, Callum, and Nora. Helmut was the dear brother, uncle, and cousin to his beloved family in Germany.

Helmut was born and raised in Leipzig, Germany, and lived his life with a great sense of adventure.  At the age of 17, Helmut journeyed to Canada on his own where he began working as a mechanic and where he met the love of his life. Smitten, he followed Margret to New York, and they later married.  Together they built a life together and settled in Staten Island. Helmut continued his career as a mechanic and manager at L. M. Rabinowitz & Co. in New York where he worked for over 30 years.  He loved to take road trips, build things, barbecue, garden, and enjoy the great outdoors.  Helmut spent many hours tending his beautiful flowers, plants, and vegetables, especially his beefsteak tomatoes.  Most of all, Helmut loved to spend time with his family and friends sharing stories and his fondest memories.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10314.  A Funeral Service will be held at 5 PM.
