Obituary of Michael F. Carbonaro

Michael Frank Carbonaro, 80, of Staten Island, New York, passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2025 surrounded by family.

A cherished husband, devoted father, adored grandfather and great grandfather (Poppy) and beloved friend, Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, family, hard work, and enduring friendship.

Michael was born on January 5, 1945 in Staten Island, New York to the late Rose Bonvino and Michael Carbonaro, who came to the U.S. from Bari, Italy.  His siblings Maria Amoia and her husband Vincent and Dominic Carbonaro and his wife Lillian preceded him in death.  Michael graduated from Curtis High School in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Kay Gianfortune, in 1964.  He became a Police Officer for the City of New York in 1969, retiring in 1998.  Always the hard worker, Michael began a second career with the U.S. Marshall Service in 2003 serving more than 20 years.   Michael often worked multiple jobs to take care of his family and was the first one to help friends and family when needed.  He loved spending time with his family, classic automobiles, and crabbing in the waters off New Jersey.  Michael enjoyed visits to Ocean City, Maryland and Pelican Island, New Jersey.

Michael is survived by his soulmate and wife of 61 years, Kay (Gianfortune), his son Michael Carbonaro and daughter-in-law Donna, his daughter Rose Palacino (Carbonaro) and son-in-law Joseph Palacino.  He is also survived by five grandchildren Melissa McLendon (Carbonaro) and her husband Nicholas, Deanna Piccirillo (Lambiasi) and her husband Anthony, Brittany Carbonaro, Michael Lambiasi and his wife Brittany, and Camryn Carbonaro.  Michael is also survived by two great grandsons Vincenzo Piccirillo and Nicholas McLendon, who brought him great joy in his final years.  Michael will be dearly missed by family and friends.
