Obituary of Joseph P. Modzelewski

Joseph P. Modzelewski age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of the late Jean Modzelewski (nee Cecero); loving father of Anne Marie, Jeanette and Joseph (Michele); beloved grandfather of McKenna and dear “Puppy Poppy” of Bruno; cherished brother of Barbara Ferrito, Larry Modzelewski (Rene) and Ruth Kahmann. Joseph is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Joseph was dedicated to his community and country throughout his life. He served his country honorably in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Joseph was a NYC Firefighter whose strength and integrity made him the hero he was to his family. He was a carpenter by trade and had hands of gold. Joseph will be remembered as a selfless and caring man who lived for his family. He will be dearly missed.  

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, 8/9/2025 departing at 8:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua RC Church at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Friday, 8/8/2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
