Obituary of Mary DeVuono

Mary “Marie” DeVuono was born Mary Alliegro on July 6th 1926. Daughter to Vincent and Frances Alliegro.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gino, her daughter Maryann, parents Vincent and Frances. As well as her siblings; Ralph, Emelia, Dominick, Vincent and Frances.

Early in her twenties, while working at Capital shoes, she met Gino DeVuono. They were married in 1951 and brought three children into the world. Maryann, Bruno and Gina.

The DeVuono’s made their home in Brooklyn on Stillwell Ave. They lived on the 2nd floor and her parents on the floor below. Mary always said “It’s a small house but a happy house”. Many a weekend the house was filled with lots of family and plenty of food.

The house on Stillwell was the “holiday party” house. Family and friends will always remember the back yard parties with dad’s juke box playing the not so newest hits including “Crazy Mary”. Everyone had a favorite song. You were lucky if you didn’t get thrown in the pool.

Mary wasn’t a hobbyist but did have a passion for bingo, cards and the casinos. Especially the casinos, but only when she won. The slots were her favorite.

She also had an appetite for Chinese food. Silver Star was her favorite Chinese restaurant when she lived in Brooklyn. In her later years when living in Staten Island, her favorite Chinese restaurant was Jade Island. She would always say yes to a visit to Jade Island.

After the passing of her daughter Maryann, Mary moved to Colorado and started a new chapter. She spent precious time with her great grandchildren enjoying birthdays and the Christmas holidays.

She is survived by her son Bruno, daughter-in-law Michele, daughter Gina, Grandchildren Christopher Amorosa, Joseph & Ashley Amorosa, Matthew DeVuono, Marina & Jonathan Trinidad, Rocky & Sierra DeSantis and Dario DeSantis. Also her great grandchildren Vincent, Gino, Ava Amorosa, Juliana & Domenic Trinidad.

She lived a good long life of 99 years and will be missed by all who knew her. She will be forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Mary.   https://www.stjude.org
