Obituary of Alice Abraham

Alice Abraham, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of Christ, was born Alice Eapen on August 13, 1947, in Kerala, India, to the late P.M. Eapen and Sosamma Eapen (née Abraham) Palaparambil House, Chengalam. She entered her eternal rest on September 6, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by her loving family after a prolonged illness.

Alice was baptized “Elizabeth” in the Syrian Orthodox tradition, was raised by her grandparents, and from a young age she displayed a deep love for God and His Word. She was the oldest of 7 children and at the age of 16, she left Kerala to pursue nursing at Holy Family College of Nursing in New Delhi, India. After graduation, she began her nursing career in Delhi before emigrating to the United States in 1971 through a nurse exchange program sponsored by Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. There she faithfully served her patients for 31 years with compassion and dedication. While working, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. Joseph’s University, followed by graduate education at Brooklyn College.

On June 5, 1975, Alice married her devoted husband Joseph “Kunju” Abraham (Karakkatu House, Kollad) in Boise, Idaho. Together they shared 50 beautiful years of marriage, built a home in Brooklyn, and welcomed two daughters, Sybil and Sheryl. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into loving, nurturing, and guiding them in the ways of the Lord.

Alice’s life was marked by her unwavering faith. She studied the Bible diligently, spent countless hours in prayer, and generously supported ministries and charitable works. She was a longtime member of Second Evangelical Free Church, New York Pentecostal Assembly of Staten Island, Christian Church of Canarsie (where she also served as a board member), and India Pentecostal Church Orlando. Along with her husband, she was a founding member of Ebenezer Gospel Mission and they travelled to India frequently over the years to visit the mission field.

Her faith was not only professed but lived—through kindness, warmth, and hospitality, evidenced in the way she welcomed everyone into her home with Christian love. In her later years, Alice found joy in traveling with her husband, cherishing time with family and friends in New York, Florida, and India.

To her loved ones, she was known for her compassionate spirit, her delicious cooking, her prayers that sustained many, and her constant encouragement to trust in God’s promises. Although Alice has gone home to be with the Lord, her legacy of faith, love, and service will live on through her family and all who knew her.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Mani “Mon” Eapen.  She is survived by her loving husband Joseph; daughters Sybil and Sheryl; sons-in-law Reggie and Rafael; grandchildren Zuriel, Sarah, Alicia, Abigail, and Daniel; brother Abraham “Kunju”; sisters Susamma “Susan”, Annamma “Kunjumol”, Mariamma “Joyce”, and Saramma “Sally”; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Alice lived her life for Christ, and now rests in His eternal presence, where there is no more pain or sorrow. Her family takes comfort in the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts until we meet again in glory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alice’s memory to Ebenezer Gospel Mission, 299 Roma Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10306.
