Obituary of Stanley J. Mikos

Stanley Mikos, a lifelong Staten Islander and proud veteran, passed away surrounded by family on September 24. Born on March 16, 1940 in Port Richmond, Staten Island, Stanley was the beloved son of Stanley Mikos and Marcella Mikos (née Graebe), both also of Staten Island.

Stanley graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1958, where he was a talented multi-sport athlete, playing both basketball and baseball. He briefly worked at Proctor and Gamble before joining the United States Air Force. From August 1961 to January 1965, he served honorably as a Senior Airman.

While stationed at Lajes Air Force Base in the Azores, Stanley met the love of his life, Marina Fernandes. The two married in 1962, beginning a lifelong partnership full of love and laughter. Together, they raised three children.

After returning to New York, Stanley returned to work at Proctor & Gamble in Staten Island, first as a warehouse worker and later in their buying office. After taking early retirement, he found fulfillment working small jobs, his favorite being with Meals on Wheels, helping to serve his community.

Stanley was a fun-loving man, full of wit and humor, who found the most joy spending time with his family and visiting his favorite Staten Island spots — Denino’s, Bridge Tavern, and Pete’s Eats. He loved sports, especially bowling and playing softball, and was a loyal fan of the New York Giants, Yankees, and Rangers.

In 2010, Stanley and Marina moved to Freehold, New Jersey, where they enjoyed their later years together. Stanley’s warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to family will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

He is survived by his three children, Stanley V. Mikos, Marina Bramhall Jeff), and Marianne Chacon (Javier); his cherished grandchildren Thomas (Maria), Caitlyn, Vincent (Samantha), Chris, Alexander, and Matthew; and his adored great-grandchildren Anna Marina and TJ. Stanley is also survived by his siblings Marcella Mikos, Steven Mikos (MaryAnn), Vincent Mikos (Diane), Marilyn Dawson, and Nancy Mikos, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Stanley is now reunited with Marina, the love of his life & beloved wife of 62 years, whose passing preceded his in October 2024. Together again, their love and laughter will live on in the hearts of their family.
