Obituary of Mariamma Mathew
Mrs. Mariamma Varghese, born on August 24, 1936, in Nallottil House, Pandanad, Chengannur, Alappuzha District, Kerala, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2025. She was the second daughter in a family of five children to the late Mr. N. C. Varghese and Mrs. Mariamma Varghese of Pandanad.
She was married to the late A. C. Mathew of Thekkethil, Ambipoika, Kundara, Kollam. Together they were blessed with three children: Soosan Mathew and her husband Babu Daniel, Mathew Abu Cheriyan and his wife Leena George, and Sherly Mathew and her husband Stanly John.
She had two brothers and two sisters. She has now joined her dear sister Rosamma Varghese, her sister Soosamma Alexander, and her brother Jacob Varghese (Monachen) in eternal rest, and is lovingly survived by her brother Abraham Varghese.
A devoted Christian, she lived a life centered on faith, prayer, humility, and dedication to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter who instilled the values of prayer, kindness, faithfulness, and service to others, ensuring her children were raised with strong educational and moral foundations.
She served as a teacher at Government High School, Kuzhimathicad, and later retired as the Headmistress of Government High School, Thachangad and Boothakulam, completing 32 years of dedicated service and touching countless young lives.
She was a loving grandmother to Joel and Nina, Justin and Vincy, Sen, Sachin, Renu and Eugene, and Arun and Grace, and a proud great-grandmother to Hannah, Abigail, Nathan, Jonah, and Miya. Her family will always remember her prayers, quiet strength, and the love she poured into each generation.
Though we have lost a deeply loved mother and grandmother, we take comfort knowing she is in the presence of the Lord. We thank God for the blessing of her life, her faith, and the time we shared with her. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
