Obituary of Amedy S. Re
Amedy Sammy Re, 95, passed away at 12:10 P.M. on Monday, November 17th, 2025, at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, NY. Amedy was born on July 26th, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York to Angelo and Giuseppina (Gaeta) Re. He was married to Pauline (Van Sickle) Re on September 4th, 1954, at St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island, N.Y., until her passing on July 19th, 2017. Amedy and Pauline met while he and his brother, John, were building a house in Goshen Hills, NY on property purchased by their father. They had 5 children together. Their family lived in Bay Ridge Brooklyn until moving to Concord, Staten Island in 1965 and settling in the Old Town section of Staten Island in 1973, where he lived until his passing.
After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School in 1948, and a short stint in the workforce, Amedy was drafted into the Marine Corps on October 4th, 1951. He served active duty in the Korean War until 1953 and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal on October 3rd, 1959, from the Reserves. After his honorable discharge, he began a 41-year career in banking at what is now known as HSBC, ascending to Assistant Vice President, and playing a critical role innovating early computer banking software until his retirement on June 21st, 1994. After retirement, Amedy continued working as management for his son Thomas' moving business. Amedy was a dedicated NY Mets fan, an avid follower of politics who loved to passionately debate and discuss a wide range of issues, enjoyed playing cards and other games with friends and family and tinkering with his vehicles, amongst many other hobbies and interests.
Amedy is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, his parents, Angelo and Giuseppina, and siblings, Johnny, Olly, Ida, and Amedeo.
Amedy is survived by daughters Joanne and Carolyn, sons James, Thomas, and Richard as well as 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, loving in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Amedy's visitation will be held at Matthew Funeral Home, Staten Island, on Monday, November 24th, 2025 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Amedy's funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 25th, 2025 at Matthew Funeral Home with burial to follow at Ocean View Cemetery at 11:30 A.M. Flowers and other memorials can be sent to Matthew Funeral Home, or, in lieu of memorials, donations to Alzheimer's Foundation are also greatly appreciated.
