Obituary of Robert A. Somma

Robert Somma, 69, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at Richmond University Medical Center, on Staten Island, NY, surrounded by family who loved him. Robert was born on December 7, 1956, in Brooklyn, NY, to Mary and Antonio Somma. Bob's father passed away when he was a teenager. His mother remarried Rudolph Colangelo, and together they raised their four boys together and they were brothers in every sense of the word. He was a graduate of Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in 1974. Robert married Denise Sheehan on April 28, 2007, at Resurrection RC Church in Brooklyn. They resided on Minna Street for many years before making Staten Island their home in 2012. He worked for many years at the NYC Department of Finance before retiring in 2023. Bob enjoyed bowling and was an avid fan of the NY Mets and Dallas Cowboys. He loved watching WWE wrestling matches with his brother. He would watch his favorite teams play for hours and root intensely for them. His dedication to his favorite teams was matched only by his loyalty to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Denise, brother Robert Colangelo, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. "Bob leaves behind cherished memories that will live on the hearts of those who loved him." Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, 11/28, from 2:00 and 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM, with a service scheduled for 8:00 PM. The funeral will depart from the Funeral Home on Saturday, 11/29, at 10:45 AM, with burial to follow at Ocean View Cemetery.
