Obituary of Rev. Arthur Pettersen

Arthur Pettersen, 80, of Westerleigh passed away this Monday, November 24. He was the son of Norwegian immigrants, Johan and Susanne, who proudly called Staten Island their home for their entire adult lives. The whole family continued to share their love of Norway and its traditions. Art’s entire life was centered around the Church and his family. Art became a Lutheran Minister and served in a number of congregations across the country before returning home to Staten Island. A part of his ministry of 54 years included work in a variety of social service settings providing counseling and support. Art also proudly volunteered as a police chaplain and worked with the Air Force. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, and reading. He loved spending time with his family and close friends. He will remain in the hearts of his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his friends.
