Obituary of Donald Eugene Knapp

Donald Eugene Knapp, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 13, 1945, in Syracuse, New York, Don spent much of his childhood growing up in Ohio, a place that helped shape the values he carried throughout his life. He lived a life defined by love, strength, loyalty, and devotion. A faithful protector and provider, Don was deeply family-oriented and took immense pride in caring for those he loved.

Don was the proud husband of Marie Knapp, his wife of 54 years, and their love story began most fittingly—through his love of bowling, where the two first met. He cherished their weekly date nights and the simple joy of being together. His greatest happiness came from spending time with his family, especially during family barbecues, watching his grandchildren play sports, birdwatching, and relaxing at home with his beloved dog, Leia.

A proud Eagle Scout, Don carried his love of the outdoors throughout his life. He enjoyed camping, swimming, running, and fishing, and these passions reflected his appreciation for nature and time well spent. He also loved bowling, golfing, and faithfully rooting for the New York Mets.

Don honorably served in the United States Air Force. He later attended the College of Insurance and went on to build a successful career as a Technology Manager, where he was known for his reliability, intelligence, and strong work ethic.

Above all else, Don will be remembered for his warm smile, his big heart, his devotion to his Catholic faith, and his unwavering love for his wife and family. He always showed up when needed, offering steady support, kindness, and reassurance. His presence made people feel safe, loved, and valued, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Knapp; his children Scott Knapp, Tara Biscuiti, Tim Knapp, and Kim Althoff; his daughters-in-law Christina Knapp and Nikki Knapp; his son-in-law Billy Althoff; and his cherished grandchildren Daniella Biscuiti, Zoe Knapp, A.J. Biscuiti, Olivia Knapp, Billy Althoff, Joe Althoff, and Gianna Knapp, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Don also leaves behind his brothers Pat Carroll (Joni) and Kevin Carroll; sisters-in-law Ann C. Tomo and Ann F. Tomo; nieces and nephews Joe Tomo, Karen Tomo, Lori Carannante, Vincent Carannante, Michelle Tomo, Melanie Tomo, and Natalie Carroll, and loving friends Maddy Sliger, Gerry Sliger, and Nancy Madden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa Carroll (Ray) and Donald Knapp.

A wake will be held on December 18, 2025, at Matthew Funeral Home from 4:00–8:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on December 19, 2025, at Saint Teresa’s Church at 10:45 a.m. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of his granddaughter Gianna to https://www.beatbpan.org.

Though he is no longer with us, Don’s legacy of love, devotion, and family will live on through the many lives he touched and the generations he helped shape.
