Obituary of William C. VanName

William C. VanName, age 68, was born on August 28, 1957, in Staten Island, and passed away on December 26, 2025.

A proud veteran and a retired member of the FDNY, William dedicated 34 years of honorable service. He was deeply committed to his work and, most importantly, to his family.

He was the loving father of four children — Lynn, William, Chris, and Toni — and a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Alex, Dakota, Dallas, Kristine, Salvatore, Stephen, Vincent, and Joseph, who were the light of his life. William is also survived by his mother, Anita, and his sister, Gina.

William loved golfing and cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in memory of William.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. on Wednesday, 12/31/2025 departing at 10:15 AM. A Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Entombment will follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, 12/30/2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
