Obituary of Joseph P. Keenan Sr.

Joseph P. Keenan Sr., 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Staten Island on December 30, 2025, surrounded by his family he loved so deeply. Born on May 14, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph lived a life defined by service, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. Joseph proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1956 to 1959 before beginning a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department. He joined the NYPD in 1962 and served with honor and integrity until his retirement in 1995, achieving the rank of First Grade Detective. Over more than three decades, he helped solve countless cases, yet he remained the most modest of men—never seeking recognition and never boasting of his accomplishments. To Joseph, doing the right thing was simply who he was.

Above all else, Joseph’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a father and, especially, a grandfather. His world revolved around his beloved granddaughter, for whom he would do absolutely anything. She was the light of his life, and his love for her was evident in everything he did. He was also a devoted father, a guiding presence, and a source of strength for his family. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Joseph walked away with a story and a smile—because he truly touched everyone’s heart. He was known as one of the kindest men anyone had ever met, and his warmth, humor, and gentle spirit will be missed beyond measure.

Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen E. Keenan. He is survived by his son, Joseph P. Keenan Jr daughter-in-law Donna Keenan and cherished granddaughter Cameron Keenan, with whom he shared his home and life with. His legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers donations to Tunnel to Towers would be greatly appreciated.
