Obituary of Anthony E. Liszewski

Anthony E. Liszewski, 72, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away on January 6, 2026 at Wedgwood Gardens Rehabilitation Center, with his loving family by his side.

Born on September 12, 1953 in Manhattan to the late Joseph Liszewski and Helen Liszewski, Anthony grew up in Travis and graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1971. He worked as a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for over 25 years before retiring in 2013.

Anthony was a kind and generous person and would help anyone.  If he passed a person broke down on the side of the road he would stop to help.  He enjoyed listening to music, watching old movies and westerns, working on cars (he was always looking for a 60 Chevy) and spending time with his family.  He loved dining out and especially enjoyed the River Lady Dinner Dance Cruises each summer.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Carol Liszewski (mother of his child, Laurie Peterson).  He was preceded in death by his former wife, Denise Liszewski (mother of his children, Carrie, Anthony, Thomas and Mary), who passed away in 2005.

Anthony was preceded in death by his siblings, Emily Boria, John Siciliano, Phillip Siciliano, Frank Siciliano, JoAnn O’Connor, Joseph Liszewski and Helene Diack.

He is survived by a loving blended family:

  • His children from his first marriage to Denise: Carrie Liszewski of Tuckerton, NJ, Anthony Liszewski Jr. of Tuckerton, NJ, Thomas Liszewski of Brigantine, NJ and Mary Liszewski of Barnegat, NJ.
  • His child from his second marriage to Carol: Laurie Peterson of Staten Island, NY.
  • Seven grandchildren:  Kevin, Sophia, Grace, Chase, Jayden, Anthony and Ava.
  • His sister, Carmella Symotsky of Staten Island, NY.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Monday, 1/12, departing at 9:45 AM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church at 10:30 AM.  Interment will follow at Moravian Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, 1/11, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
