Obituary of Elssie F. Alvear
Elssie Alvear, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully in her home on February 4, at the age of 93.
Born on August 4, 1932, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she lived a life defined by love, faith and kindness. She was the daughter of Fanny and Miguel Larrea and proud wife to her other half, Jose Alvear. She spent most of her life in New York City where she built a home filled with warmth and traditions.
She is survived by her children Jose and Guisella, daughter-in-law Linda, grandchildren Christina, Jessica, Tanya, Joey and their spouses, great-grandchildren Carter, Charley, Cameron and Ava, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose, son Robert, son-in-law George and siblings, Miguel, Aquiles, Betty and Jaime.
Elssie was known for her love of travel, knitting, and family game time. Above all, she cherished her family and took great pride in being a matriarch whose love spanned generations.
A service will be held on Monday February 9 from 4pm-8pm at Matthew Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the New York Foundling Organization or that loved ones honor her memory by spending time with family.
Elssie will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her beautiful, kind heart.
