Obituary of Wayne Lindsey

Wayne Lindsey

With full hearts and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Wayne "Jay" Lindsey, who passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 68, with his loved ones by his side. Born on January 24, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY, Jay later made Staten Island his home. He was a true New Yorker through and through—strong, resilient, and unforgettable.

Jay was funny, stubborn, generous, private, adventurous, and yes... proudly a little grumpy. That perfect mix of traits made him uniquely and unapologetically himself. He was a man people trusted—honest to his core, dependable, and someone whose word truly meant something.

If you needed advice, Jay gave it straight: thoughtful, practical, and always rooted in care. He was an amazing listener, the kind who made you feel heard without judgment. Many trusted him with their worries and their secrets, knowing they were safe with him. He was, without question, a keeper of confidences and a steady presence in the lives of those he loved.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Jay began his career with NYC Transit before joining Con Edison, where he worked for 25 years until his recent retirement. He took great pride in his work and in providing for himself and his family, never shying away from responsibility and always giving his best.

Outside of work, Jay embraced the things that brought him joy. He loved spending time with family, firing up the grill, riding his bike, and watching sports—especially tennis. He was a gadget collector, famously believing that if one was good, two were better. He could often be found researching something on the computer, diving deep into topics that sparked his curiosity. He enjoyed learning, exploring, and figuring things out in his own quiet way.

Above all, Jay loved his family. Though he could be private, his love ran deep and steady. He is survived by his siblings: Kim and her husband Tony; Harry; and William and his wife Vanessa. He also leaves behind a large and loving circle of nieces and nephews: Monica, Michael, Aaron, Timothy, Tawanna, Kareem, Harry Jr., Reasa, Pamella, Levelle, Loresa, Summer, Daniel, and Nathaniel; his beloved bonus family—Pam, Benni, Colby, and Denise; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who will continue to carry his memory forward. Jay was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Estelle Lindsey, whose memory remained close to his heart.

To know Jay was to understand that love does not always have to be loud to be powerful. It can be steady. It can be protective. It can be found in good advice, quiet understanding, shared laughter, and knowing someone always had your back. Though we will miss his voice, his laugh, and even his grumbles, we celebrate a life lived fully, honestly, and on his own terms. Jay's strength, integrity, humor, and loyal heart will remain with us always.

Forever loved. Always remembered
