Obituary of Brian J. Hall

Brian John Hall, a lifelong Westerleigh resident, died on February 26, 2026 at Staten Island University Hospital, the same hospital where he was born on July 14, 1956 to Clifford and Lillian Hall. He was 69 years old. As a child he attended the Staten Island Aid for Retarded Children, now Community Resources until 1964. He became a student at P.S. 20 and graduated in 1973. He then entered the Richmond Occupational Training Center in New Brighton, now the Richard Hungerford School and was in a sheltered workshop. Brian benefited from the services and educational opportunities his devoted parents worked tirelessly to make accessible to all people with disabilities. Much later in his life, Brian lived at the Peterson House in New Brighton where the staff appreciated his affability. His residence there was serendipitous because his siblings realized, after their mother's death, that this was the residence for which she was particularly influential in having established. Dr. Thomas K. Hall, whom Brian affectionately called "Brother Tom", shared, "Brian was a very happy kid, and as an adult he enjoyed living at Peterson House and socializing with his peers." Brian's best friend was his father. Together they took walks around the golf course, collected errant golf balls, and took car rides to visit Brian's paternal uncle, "Brother Ray." His true love was bowling as a member of his team Colonial Pals and was proud of his trophies and team jacket. He liked family parties, listening to jazz music, and dance socials given by support groups. Brian is predeceased by his parents, his sister Edith Bloome and is survived by his brother Dr. Thomas K. Hall, his sisters Mary Patricia Fitzpatrick and Elizabeth Hall Lee and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. The wake will be held at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on March 13 from 4 - 8pm. The following day there is a prayer service at 10 am prior to interment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
