Obituary of Woodrow W. Bellamy, Jr.
Woodrow Bellamy Jr., a father, brother and proud Staten Island native, passed away peacefully at 67 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his children—Nicole Slaughter, Woodrow Bellamy III, and Janel Bellamy—the mother of his children, Carol Bellamy—his grandchildren—Sky Slaughter and Santana Slaughter, and his siblings Tony, Jeffrey, Michael, and Lisa. Woodrow was predeceased by his brother Gerald and his parents, Woodrow Bellamy Sr. and Bettie Jean Bellamy.
Woodrow grew up in Staten Island before building a life and career in Washington, D.C. He earned an undergraduate degree from Wagner University and an MA in Economics from Howard University. He eventually served as Director of IT for Fairfax County until his retirement in 2020. However, the roles he loved most were dad, coach, and friend. He spent countless hours supporting his children in youth sports and coaching basketball at the James Lee Community Center. He also worked as an adjunct professor of Economics at Northern Virginia Community College.
He stayed deeply connected to his New York family and roots — now honored with a street renamed after his late mother, Bettie.
Services will be held at St. Phillips Baptist Church, 77 Bennett St, Staten Island NY on Wednesday, March 11, at 10:30 AM, with interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery, Staten Island, at 12:30 PM., Staten Island, NY.
