Obituary of Evelyn A. Porfilio

Mrs. Evelyn A. “Evie” Porfilio (née Rogers), aged 87, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Staten Island, New York. Born on September 8, 1938, in New York City, Evelyn lived a life defined by devotion to her family, resilience, and an unwavering work ethic.

Family was the cornerstone of Evelyn’s life. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, and her brother, Francis. She is survived by her children: Thomas and his wife, Marcela; Francis; Dorothy and her husband, Andrew; and Barbara and her partner, Russell. Evelyn also leaves behind two cherished granddaughters, Christina and Julianna. She is also fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Her personal joys were simple yet profound, most especially attending every one of her granddaughters’ performances; seeing them shine gave her the greatest joy. She brought holidays to life with festive decorations and cherished traditions that endured into her children’s adulthood, and each year she made every child’s birthday special with a meal of their choosing. Evelyn had a deep love for musicals and shared this passion with her children. A devoted Yankees fan, she attended numerous games with her children over the years, even climbing steep stadium steps with the aid of a cane in later years to cheer on her favorite team. She also found happiness in beach vacations with family, road trips, traveling, watching television, and playing cards.

Evelyn’s love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. After Albert suffered a stroke, she visited him five nights a week after working full days—a reflection of her selflessness and enduring care. She was known as a deeply caring mother and grandmother, always putting the needs of others before her own.

Evelyn’s independent spirit shone brightly throughout her life. Humble yet strong-willed, she never wanted to be a burden to anyone and rarely complained about life’s challenges.

Evelyn dedicated 25 years of her career to the Medical Malpractice Insurance Association, where she rose to the position of claims examiner and led a team with sincerity and integrity. Remarkably, she never took a single sick day during her tenure—a testament to her commitment and determination. Her work was not just a job, but a means of supporting her family, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.

Evelyn’s legacy is one of sacrifice, endurance, and unconditional love—a life lived fully for those she held dear. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her.

May Evelyn’s memory bring comfort to those who loved her as they celebrate the remarkable woman she was.
