Obituary of Angelo Vasquez
In Loving Memory of Angelo Vasquez
April 28, 1943 - April 12, 2026
With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we announce the passing of Angelo Vasquez, who entered eternal rest on April 12, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to Juan and Emilia, Angelo was the second youngest of ten children. In the summer of 1960, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country for four years; he carried that sense of duty into every chapter of his life. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Patricia, on a ski trip with mutual friends. They married, had a son and built a beautiful life together in Brooklyn, creating wonderful memories throughout the years.
Angelo served 32 years with the FDNY Engine Company 33 & Ladder Company 9 at 42 Great Jones Street in NoHo, Manhattan; answering the call to protect his community with unwavering courage and a steady hand. Known not just for his bravery in the face of danger, he was a cornerstone of the firehouse, earning the nickname, “Super,” as he embodied that characteristic in every sense of the word. Incredibly intelligent, Angelo was gifted with a mechanical mind and had the innate ability to mend almost anything. If it was broken, “Super” could fix it. From repairing things around the firehouse to mentoring the younger firefighters, he was always there for his “Bowery Bums.” He had a special knack for knowing exactly what to say, with his sharp wit and keen sense of humor, and could always be relied upon and trusted to listen, share invaluable insight and offer stellar guidance. Angelo retired from the FDNY in 2002, but never truly stopped being a firefighter—his dedication to others continued throughout his life. Always putting others above himself, without regret or hesitation, Angelo donated to countless charities, and would even stop and assist strangers stranded on the side of the road. He was selfless, wanting nothing in return - happy and willing to lend a helping hand.
Jazz music and good cognac made him most happy, but more than anything, he enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren - instilling in them the importance of hard work, kindness, being honest and true, and never, ever giving up. He had the rare gift of making all around him feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. While strong and tough on the outside, Angelo had the softest, warmest heart.
Angelo is survived by his devoted, beloved wife of over 50 years, Patricia (née Piccininni); his loving son, Jamie and his wife, Maria; his cherished grandchildren, Ava & Alexander; his brother Martin Vasquez; his sister-in-law Antoinette Scarda; his brother-in-law Michael Piccininni; many nieces and nephews; countless friends and a fire family that spans generations. His legacy of love and lessons of service, integrity, and resilience will live on.
