Obituary of Theresa Terrana
Theresa Terrana, 83, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Staten Island, Theresa was a proud graduate of Saint Rita's Elementary School and Curtis High School. She went on to build a long career as a secretary, beginning with Greek Line Cruises, where she had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. She later worked in law firms in downtown Manhattan, and in her later years continued her work on Staten Island at Verrazano Nursing Home and the Society of Saint Paul.
But more than anything, Theresa will be remembered for the way she cared for others.
Her love showed up in the quiet, everyday moments. She was the one who made sure everyone was taken care of, without ever needing recognition. She devoted herself to caring for her sister Mamie each and every day.
Every Sunday, Theresa carried on a cherished family tradition started by her mother, preparing dinner for the entire family. Those meals were more than just food; they were her way of bringing everyone together and keeping tradition alive.
She was also a constant presence in the lives of her nieces and nephews, and later their children. Whether it was babysitting, helping out, or simply being there when needed, Theresa gave her time and energy freely. To so many, she was a second mother, a steady and loving figure who could always be counted on.
In her quieter moments, you could find her doing a crossword puzzle or watching her favorite soap operas, All My Children and General Hospital
Theresa was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Anthony Terrana; her brothers, Ross Terrana and Joseph Terrana; and her sisters, Regina Palmieri, Valerina Gulotta, and Josephine Runnels.
She is survived by her loving sisters, Catherine DeCarlo, Mamie Terrana, Antoinette Terrana, Carmella Modafferi, and Concetta Dickmann, along with 19 nieces and nephews, 28 great-nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her love with them.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Theresa's life on Friday, May 1, from 8:30 to 10:15 AM at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY, followed by a Mass at Saint Rita's Church.
