Obituary of Thomas J. Nolan, III

We remember and honor a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who meant so much to those who knew him.

He served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966 aboard the USS Tidewater. His time in the service was something he took pride in, and it shaped the steady, dependable person his family and friends relied on throughout his life.

He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 1365 and the Staten Island Society of Model Railroaders. He enjoyed the friendships he built there, sharing stories, laughter, and his interest in model railroads—something truly enjoyed.

At home, he spent his time tending to his rose garden, reading, working on his stamp and coin collections or working in the garage on a model. He cared about each deeply and they brought him a quiet kind of happiness in his retirement.

Family was always most important to him. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his son Thomas and daughter-in-law Stacey; and his grandchildren, Riley and Thomas, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister Patricia O’Neil, brother-in-law Peter O’Neil, his brother Richard, and many extended family members and friends.

He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and his dedication to the people he loved. He will be deeply missed.
