Obituary of Benjamin "Benny" Currao

Benjamin "Benny" Currao, age 89, of Staten Island, New York, passed away peacefully at his home, beside his loving wife, on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Currao. Benjamin was a dedicated butcher by trade, masterfully honing his craft for over 50 years in various local grocery stores throughout his long career. On September 2, 1967, Benjamin married the love of his life, Kathleen (Gorman) Currao, with whom he built a beautiful life and shared 58 wonderful, devoted years of marriage.

Affectionately known as "Benny," he was widely celebrated for his sharp sense of humor and his deep, unwavering love for his family. An avid bowler, passionate coin collector, and lover of country music, Benny also had a passion for sports. He spent much of his free time enthusiastically rooting for his favorite teams, the New York Rangers and the New York Yankees.

He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings and their spouses: his brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent and Catherine, Joseph and Gloria, Ronald and Mary; and his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Edward.

Left to cherish his legacy and memory are his loving wife, Kathleen; his five children, Marie (Anthony), Beatrice (Michael), Carol (Peter), Vickie (Joe), and Michael; along with his 7 adored grandchildren, Charlie (Melanie), Anthony (Dina), Jennifer (Alex), Jaymi (Louie), Nicholas, Angela, and James; and 5 cherished great-grandchildren, Louis, Olivia, Brooklyn, Genevieve, and Christopher. Benny will be deeply missed by his extensive family and friends, who take great comfort in knowing he is now peacefully reunited with his parents and siblings.
