Obituary of Carol Colao

In Loving Memory of Carol Colao April 23, 1941 – August 25, 2026 Carol Colao, 85, of Staten Island, New York, passed away on August 25, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, music, style, and memories that will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply. Born on April 23, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Carol graduated from high school and later devoted her life to what mattered most to her—her family and her home. She shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Ben Colao, building a life together filled with love, family, and countless memories. To know Carol was to know someone truly unforgettable. She had a passion for fashion and believed there was no reason for an outfit to ever be dull. Whether she was dressed up for an occasion or simply going about her day, Carol always had her own unmistakable sense of style. And, of course, there was always room for her beloved leopard print. Whether it was a sweater, a shirt, or even her cane, Carol found a way to make leopard print part of her look. It became one of her signatures and something those who knew and loved her will forever see and immediately think of Carol. Her weekly hairdresser appointment was not to be missed. Carol took pride in looking her best, and she carried herself with a personality just as vibrant as the clothes she wore. Carol was also a devoted New York Mets fan. If the Mets were playing, Carol was watching. Music brought Carol tremendous joy, and she loved to sing. One song in particular, "Sweet Caroline," held a special place in her heart. It is a song that will now forever bring with it memories of her voice, her spirit, and the happiness she brought into the lives of those around her. Above everything else, Carol loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest legacy can be found in the family she leaves behind and in the countless memories, traditions, stories, and pieces of herself that will continue through them. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ben Colao; her son, John Colao, and daughter-in-law, Raquel Colao; her daughter, Gina Cordano, and son-in-law, Gene Cordano; and her beloved grandchildren, Olivia Cordano and her fiancé, Peter Lehmann, Nicholas Colao, Claudia Cordano, Gianna Colao, and Emma Cordano. She was predeceased by her parents, Adeline and Emanuel Giombarrese; her sister, Elaine Barra; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Barra. Carol was truly one of a kind. Those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her will carry her memory with them always.
