Celebrating the life of Natalia Gloriela Peat

February 7, 1959 – August 28, 2026

Natalia Gloriela Peat, a devoted Christian, missionary elect, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at Staten Island University Hospital after a courageous and lengthy battle with brain cancer.

Natalia was born on February 7, 1959, in Colón, Panama, to Edmund L. Peat and Ines L.Peat. In the early 1960s, she immigrated to the United States with her parents and siblings, where they established a new life filled with faith, family, hard work, and opportunity. They resided in Brooklyn, New York. 

Natalia graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, New York, and later pursued undergraduate studies at Kingsborough Community College. Throughout her working life, she was known for her strong work ethic, dedication, and commitment to service. She worked for the United States Postal Service and later brought her creativity and attention to detail to Macy’s Department Store, where she became a talented gift wrapper. Natalia eventually began a career in public service with the New York City Police Department, where she served as a Police Administrative Aide until her retirement.

In her younger years, Natalia, affectionately known to many as “Tina”, loved to socialize, have fun, and spend time with her friends. She had a vibrant personality and knew how to enjoy life, even from an early age. Tina, two of her siblings, and her good friends became playfully known around Coney Island as “The Fly Girls.”

In 1986, Natalia married, and from that union she was blessed with three beloved children, Kiana Ferebee, Zorina Brown, and Daw’ud Henderson. She lovingly raised her children in Coney Island, Brooklyn, before moving with her family to Staten Island in 1999. Being a mother, and later a grandmother, brought Natalia some of the greatest joy of her life. Her children and grandchildren were among her greatest blessings, and she took immense pride in the family she loved so dearly.

Natalia was a woman of deep Christian faith. Her love for God was an important part of who she was, and she desired to serve Him and others as a missionary elect. Her family takes comfort in knowing that the faith she professed throughout her life became sight as she entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Natalia also possessed a joyful spirit and an unmistakable love for life. She loved to laugh, and her infectious laughter could fill a room and bring joy to those around her. Her presence had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.

She was gifted with her hands and enjoyed crocheting and knitting, often creating scarves and other handmade items for members of her family. Each piece represented not only her creativity, but also the love and care she poured into those closest to her.

Natalia also loved hosting her annual Easter egg hunt for all the children in the family. What began as a special gathering became a beloved family tradition that continued for nearly 20 years, creating countless memories for generations of children in her family.

Natalia also enjoyed traveling and experiencing the world. She appreciated adventures both large and small. Whether taking a five-dollar bus trip to Washington, D.C., enjoying a cruise to different destinations, traveling internationally to Europe and other countries, or simply taking a trip to the casino, Natalia embraced opportunities to enjoy life. She was also an occasional concert goer and found great pleasure in music, entertainment, travel, and fellowship with family and friends.

Natalia was predeceased by her beloved father, Edmund L. Peat.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Ines Peat; her sisters, Melisa Ricks, Odesa Payne, Pamela Wiggins, and Petula Woods; and her brothers-in-law, Joseph Ricks, Denver Wiggins, and Edgar Woods.

Her legacy will continue through her beloved children, Kiana Ferebee, Zorina Brown, and Daw`ud Henderson, and her sons-in-law, Carlton Ferebee and Michael Brown.

Natalia was also the proud and loving grandmother of Kayla Baptiste, Jeremiah Ferebee, Nayim Henderson, Benjamin Ferebee, Izabella Brown, Michael Brown Jr., Mikalyn Brown, and Cierra Brown.

She is further survived by her stepchildren, aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness, faith, laughter, and unforgettable spirit.

Natalia's life cannot be measured simply by the years she lived, but by the people she loved, the family she nurtured, the service she gave, the memories she created, and the faith she carried throughout her journey.

Her family will remember her laughter filling the room, the scarves lovingly made by her hands, the excitement of planning another trip, quality time with family and, most importantly, the love she gave so freely.

Though her earthly journey has ended, her family takes comfort in the promise of Scripture:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

Natalia fought her final battle surrounded by those who loved her, and her family now entrusts her into the loving hands of the God she faithfully served.

Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Rest peacefully, Natalia. You have finished your earthly journey and entered into eternal peace. The faith that carried you through life has brought you home, and your love will remain in the hearts of generations to come.
