Obituary of Curtis Ray

In Memoriam: Curtis Ray August 13, 1955 - October 17, 2023 Staten Island, NY - November 4th, 2023 With heavy hearts, we gather today to remember and celebrate the life of Curtis Ray, who departed from this world on October 17, 2023, at the age of 68. Curtis was born on August 13, 1955, in Flushing, NY to his beloved mother, Elizabeth C. Ray, and his late father, Harry Ray. Curtis Ray was a cherished son, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He left an indelible mark on the lives of many through his kindness, empathy, sense of humor, and resilience. He has touched our hearts in profound ways. Curtis was passionate about the importance of family and the bonds that hold it together. He loved organizing events and family reunions for both his family and close friends, ensuring that the ties of love and togetherness remained strong. He had a particular affinity for writing movie scripts and plays, sharing his creativity and storytelling with those around him. He authored the book "One Powerful Prayer," which reflected his deep faith and spiritual journey. Among his many passions, photography held a special place in Curtis's heart. His skill with a camera not only captured beautiful moments but also brought family and friends together through the lens of his artistry. Curtis's mother was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished her deeply. His love extended to his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his fraternity brothers from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. Curtis is survived by his beloved children: Curtoy Ray, Curtis Ray, Victoria Ray, and Regina Saunders. As well as his beloved grandchildren: Remarl, Malon, Ethan, Isaiah, Jamari, Honesty, Cherish, Cavon, Aavani, and Amir. He is also survived by his siblings: Isadore Ray, Johnny Matthew Ray, and Harry Ray Jr. He was predeceased by his father, Harry Ray, and his siblings Harry Ray Jr. and Gwendolyn Ray. Curtis's life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his passions, family, friends, and community. His warm and generous spirit made everyone feel welcomed and loved, and his kindness, empathy, and sense of humor were a source of strength and joy to those around him. A memorial to celebrate the life of Curtis Ray will be held on November 4th, 2023, at Matthew Funeral Home in Staten Island, NY. Followed by a celebration on December 9th, 2023, at Browns Venue in Denmark, S.C. Friends and family are invited to attend and share in the celebration of his life. Curtis Ray will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Today, we bid farewell to a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, but we do so with gratitude for the time we were blessed to spend with Curtis. Let us remember him not with sadness, but with love, and let that love be a source of strength and light for us all as we move forward. In this moment of grief, let us also find comfort in the knowledge that we were privileged to have Curtis as a part of our lives. His memory will be a guiding light, a reminder of the importance of love, light, kindness, and the bonds we share with one another.
