Obituary of John A. Giorlando

John Andrew Giorlando, 64, of Mariner's Harbor, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Pauline and Carmelo Girolando, DDS; brother of Carl S. Girolando, DDS and Mary E. Giorlando, MD; brother-in-law to Nancy Girolando and Constance Caso; and uncle to Christopher Giorlando, Daniel Giorlando and Julieanne Giorlando. He was predeceased by his father Dr. Carmelo Giorlando, DDS. John was a life-long Staten Islander and graduate of St. John's University. He worked as a Social Worker. He enjoyed music and was a talented musician, playing both piano and guitar. In his younger years, he played guitar in local bands. John also enjoyed the Englishtown, NJ flea market, and was an avid fan of the Prairie Home Companion Radio Show. Mr. Giorlando possessed a magnetic personality, quick wit, and welcoming spirit. He was generous towards friends and strangers. A cat-lover, he will be interred with the ashes of his two loving cats, Sydney and Samuel, who preceded him in death. May his memory bless all those who knew him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, 1/26, departing at 10:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa's R.C. Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 1/25, from 12 Noon to 4:00 pm.
