Obituary of Nancy Robitzski

Nancy Jean Robitzski, 72, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. She was born February 22, 1951 on Staten Island to the late Jean Tawgin and Robert Robitzski, the first of four children. Proud of her Polish heritage, she often told stories of the ethnic cuisine prepared by her mother and grandmother. Nancy graduated from St. Joseph Hill Academy, earned a Bachelors’ degree in English at the former Richmond College, now CSI, and a Masters’ degree in Administration from St. John’s University, Queens. Drawn to early education, Nancy taught English and Religion for 42 years at St. Rita Elementary School until she retired in 2014. During her tenure, she introduced sign language to students and adults through the joining of American Sign Language and contemporary Church music. Many sacraments, graduations and seasonal celebrations were enhanced by the singing and signing of the St. Rita Children’s Choir and the parish Folk Group which she tremendously enjoyed. Nancy was very involved in CYO activities as a volunteer for annual citywide cheerleading competitions. She also worked as a summer camp Director for the Staten Island CYO. A quick wit, she never failed to enliven any project or activity she was involved in, including her beloved journeys to Seapointe Village in Wildwood Crest, Atlantic City, Long Beach Island, and Connecticut with friends. She enjoyed playing scrabble, working on crossword puzzles and watching old game shows. She is survived by her siblings Robert (Valerie), Steven (Stephanie), Linda Warner (Ken) and nephews, Jack (Sarah), Tim (Kate), Dave (Andrea), Josh (Jenna) and Dan (Lindsey) and nieces, Katy (Greg) and Amy (Adrian) and six grand nieces and nephews. She has been blessed with a myriad of friends, students and so many more (dogs included). Family and friends will be received at the Matthew Funeral Home on Monday February 5, 2024 from 4PM to 8PM with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rita Church, Bradley Avenue on Tuesday February 6, 2024 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to: The Gift of Life Howie’s House 401 Callowhill St Philadelphia, PA 19123
