Obituary of Gloria A. Yard

Gloria A. Yard, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2024. Gloria was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY (Gerritsen Beach). She worked as a switchboard operator for the NY Telephone Company for many years. She married her loving husband James Yard, Sr. in 1952. They were married for 46 years.

In 1966, Gloria eventually settled in Staten Island, NY with her husband James, who predeceased her in 1998. She is survived by her children Lisa Bruschi and James Yard, Jr. Gloria was an extremely proud grandmother of 5 (Tara Bruschi, James Yard III, Katherine, Victoria, & Matthew Yard). She always wore her grandchildren's necklace with their 5 charms on it. Displaying it proudly for all to see. Gloria is also survived by her daughter-in-law Isabel Yard, sister Ann Graham, sister-in-law Ursla Van Orden and many loving family members. Gloria was predeceased by her son-in-law Andrew Bruschi who she loved dearly and was always one of her partners in crime. She is also predeceased by her sister Mildred Tobias, brothers-in-law Paul Tobias and Arthur Graham, nieces Janie and Patty Tobias, and great nephew Daniel Tobias.

Gloria’s family was her life, and she dedicated every day to caring for them. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially on the holidays. One of her favorite pastimes was playing the slot machines in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Gloria was a passionate N.Y. Yankee fan and never missed a game. Her favorite player was Derek Jeter who she met in person at an autograph event. The only thing better than meeting Jeter was the day she met her husband. Her newest favorite Yankee ballplayer was Aaron Judge.

Gloria loved her Yankees. In her memory please feel free to wear anything Yankees to her wake. She would love it.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gloria's memory to:
