Obituary of Mary Licata
Mary Licata, nee, Befumo age 91, passed away May 12, 2020 at Staten Island University Hospital. For the last two years she was a resident of Eger Nursing Home.
Mary was born on September 24, 1928 to Lucile and Joseph Befumo and was a lifelong Staten Island resident. After graduating from high school she married Anthony Licata in 1949. She worked as a secretary in Manhattan, before joining her husband working at the family owned Victory Lanes. When she wasn't flipping burgers, Mary could pick up a 7/10 split with the best of them and was inducted into the Staten Island Bowling Hall of Fame alongside her husband who was also a great bowler. After her husband's untimely death in 1974, Mary turned her personal loss into untold gains for so many others by joining the Staten Island Heart Foundation. She returned to secretarial work, eventually retiring from the Fort Wadsworth Naval Base in 2003.
Mary was a lifelong member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with her friends in the years following her husband's death. She was an avid bingo player, and a devoted sports fan. Her love of golf and the Yankees was only surpassed by her love of family. Her vibrant spirit, her kindness and generosity of both time and treasure brought joy and comfort to countless family members and friends. Mary is survived by her daughter, Joyce D'Esposito, son-in-law, Michael D'Esposito, son, John Licata daughter-in-law, Charlene, four grandchildren, Anthony D'Esposito and his wife Agnes, Michelle Silecchia and her husband Ben, Gregory D'Esposito and his wife Alexis, Matthew Licata and his wife Desiree, as well as nine great grandchildren, Sophia, AJ,Vince, Ella, Michael, Samantha, Matthew, Mattie Lou,and Maci Lee. While Mary will be missed by many, her spirit will live on in the many lives she has touched.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private viewing will take place on May 24th.
