Obituary of Leonor Bustamante

Leonor Espinoza Mendoza de Bustamante was born on April 19, 1937 in Jimbe, Ancash, Peru to Hilario Espinoza and Maria Mendoza. She was baptized at the Lampanin Church in Jimbe, Peru on August 15, 1938. Leonor married Policarpo Bustamante on May 7, 1960 in the San Jose de Bellavista Parish in Callao, Peru. Leonor was the devoted and dedicated mother of Maria, Oscar, David, Hector, Mabel and Sergio Bustamante. In 1996, Leonor and Policarpo immigrated to the United States to join their children who did so before them. Leonor lived in Staten Island together with her family for 24 years. She was the loving grandmother of Leonor Romero, Laura Thurber, and David and Brian Bustamante. Leonor was a beautiful and hardworking woman who was primarily a homemaker. She was very poor when she was little and suffered so much from many needs. She started to do the household chores and even cooking at the young age of five. Leonor helped raising her three younger siblings. She was already a dressmaker when she was only 15 but she became one professionally at 20. She worked and helped with the expenses of the house when single. Besides being a very loving mother and a gifted cook, she was a wife who knew how to manage her husband's income so this way she could succeed raising her big family, and she was never completely happy just to make her own family prosperous but also she tried to help those in need as many as she could. She identified herself with their poor relatives and friends back in Peru, that is why on each special day such as Mother's day or Christmas she sent them money so this way she found more joy celebrating. Unfortunately, Leonor was one of the many victims dying from COVID 19. She passed away on April 14th, just four days shy of her 83rd birthday. Leonor was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Funeral arrangements were handled by Matthew Funeral Home, it took place with some restrictions due to the current circumstances on May 8th as well as the burial ceremony at Moravian Cemetery. This extraordinary woman, beautiful inside as well as out, leaves us her legacy of love and unity. Leonor always promoted that a family, not only the immediate family, should always be united and care for each other. Just a few hours before of being intubated, we, her children and husband, were able to FaceTime with her and see her sweet but suffering expression for the last time. Talking very weak, her last words were: "I love you my children. Love each other very much." Fue bautizada en la Iglesia Lampanín en Jimbe, Perú, el 15 de agosto de 1938. Leonor se casó con Policarpo Bustamante el 7 de mayo de 1960 en la Parroquia San José de Bellavista en Callao, Perú. Leonor fue la devota y dedicada madre de María, Oscar, David, Héctor, Mabel y Sergio Bustamante. En 1996, Leonor y Policarpo emigraron a Estados Unidos para unirse a sus hijos que lo hicieron antes que ellos. Leonor vivió en Staten Island junto con su familia durante 24 años. Fue la amorosa abuela de Leonor Romero, Laura Thurber y David y Brian Bustamante. Leonor fue una mujer hermosa y trabajadora que fue principalmente ama de casa. Ella fue muy pobre cuando era pequeña y sufrió muchos por varias necesidades. Comenzó a hacer las tareas del hogar e incluso a cocinar a la temprana edad de cinco años. Se identificaba con sus familiares y amigos pobres allá en el Perú, por eso en cada día especial como el día de la Madre o Navidad les enviaba dinero para que así pudiera encontrar más alegría al celebrarla. Desafortunadamente, Leonor fue una de las muchas víctimas que murieron por la enfermedad del COVID 19. Falleció el 14 de abril, solo cuatro días antes de cumplir 83 años. Leonor era feligrés de la iglesia Our Lady of Good Counsel. Los funerales fueron manejados por Matthew Funeral Home, que se llevaron a cabo con algunas restricciones debido a las circunstancias actuales el 8 de mayo, así como la ceremonia de entierro en el Moravian Cemetery. Esta mujer extraordinaria, bella por dentro y por fuera, nos deja su legado de amor y unidad. Leonor siempre promovió que una familia, no solo la familia inmediata, siempre debe estar unida y cuidarse los unos a los otros. Apenas unas horas antes de ser intubada, nosotros, sus hijos y su esposo, pudimos hacer FaceTime con ella y ver su expresión dulce pero sufrida por última vez. Hablando muy débil, sus últimas palabras fueron: "Los amo hijos míos. Ámense mucho."
